Illness forces Celine Dion to postpone San Jose show

After postponing a half-dozen shows in recent weeks as she struggles to fend off an infection, Celine Dion today added the Nov. 23 show at San Jose’s HP Pavilion to the 86 list. It has been rescheduled for Feb. 20.

Here’s the press release from her publicist (those are vocal CORDS, by the way):

SAN JOSE, CA – November 14, 2008 — AEG Live, the promoter of Celine Dion’s Taking Chances World Tour, has rescheduled the artist’s San Jose concert at HP Pavilion, originally scheduled for Sunday, November 23, 2008, while Celine recuperates from a recurrent naso-pharyngeal infection which was further complicated by inflamed vocal chords. Her physician has instructed her to refrain from singing in order to completely recover.

Celine’s concert has been rescheduled for Friday, February 20, 2009.

Fans should hold on to their original tickets as they will be honored for the new concert date. Fans unable to attend the rescheduled concert can obtain a refund at their original point of purchase.

The 40-year-old singer – who had a special humidifier built to protect her throat during her Las Vegas residency from 2003 to 2007 – is unable to perform because she has been battling a nasopharyngeal infection, an infection in the upper respiratory tract, for the past week.

Celine has rescheduled the concert for December 16 but she is still set to perform on November 7 in Ottawa, Canada, as part of her ‘Taking Chances World Tour’.

The singer recently revealed she and her 66-year-old husband Rene Angelil will try for another baby after she finishes the tour.

Celine, who welcomed son Rene-Charles into the world in 2001 after having a series of fertility treatments, is keen to extend her family, but will not be too disappointed if the process doesn’t work.

She said: “We are going to give it a try after my tour. Hopefully we are pregnant again. I have a small window of hope. But we have been so blessed already. We tried six years for Rene-Charles. We have our miracle baby.”

Celine Dion moves Twin Cities date to Dec. 18

Celine Dion has changed her mind. Her makeup concert at Target Center will be Dec. 18 instead of Feb. 5, as was announced last week when she postponed a Oct. 30 Minneapolis date because of a recurring nasopharyngeal infection.

The Target Center show will be the Canadian superstar’s final performance of 2008; her Taking Chances World Tour will continue in January. Last year, Dion completed a record-setting five-year engagement in Las Vegas that drew nearly 3 million fans for 717 shows.

Tickets for the Oct. 30 Target Center show will be honored for the December date, which will be Dion’s first Twin Cities appearance since 1999. Refunds are also available at the place of purchase.
